Business + Social Media

NetworkIn my years of experience, I have come across a number of established business owner who are resistant to using social media.  Why, because either the business owner does not fully understand it or, they simply do not see the benefit, or they have heard horror stories from their friends and family about psycho stalking situations.  Every case is different.

I often try to explain to business owners that you are a business and your account will be used for business purposes only to reach a larger market.  Since social media works great with search engines, it can double if not triple how many people find your company online.  I have found that an active social media account often pops up on the first page of Google.  This is great!  If you are not sure what I am talking about, here is an example that will hopefully make more sense.

“Bob is looking for a lipstick that his wife loves to get for her birthday present.  The name of the company is “Blush With Cherry” (this is not a real company by the way).  Bob only has 2 days and the company is located 300 miles away.  He may have to do a rush order or get his wife something else.   So Bob who is now  panicking slightly and upset that he waited to the last minute logs onto his computer.  He types “blush with cherry” in Google to see if maybe he can find a seller locally.  Not only does their website pop up on the first page of Google, but all of the companies social media links as well.  Bob clicks on their Twitter page and sees that they are having an expo today and tomorrow 18 miles away from his home.  Bob writes down the address and goes there.  Not only does Bob buy the lipstick, but he also buys 3 more items for his wife, due to the seller’s excellent presentation and enthusiasm.  His wife is happy with her gifts and very surprised!”

I hope that example was useful.  If you do not know how to use social media, you can hire a digital marketing consultant such as myself to help get you started and established.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
